    How We Restored a Broken Interior Dashboard Trim

    Broken plastic parts inside a car’s interior are a very common issue, especially in older vehicles. Dashboard trims, covers, and decorative panels often crack due to age, sunlight exposure, temperature changes, or accidental impact. Finding an original replacement part can be difficult, expensive, or even impossible if the model is discontinued.

    In this case study, we explain how a customer contacted us with a broken plastic trim on the front dashboard and how we successfully restored it using 3D printing.

    The Client’s Problem

    The customer had a damaged plastic trim piece on the front dashboard panel. The part was visibly cracked and could no longer be securely attached, which affected both the appearance of the interior and the overall comfort of using the vehicle.

    Key challenges included:

    • the original trim was no longer available for purchase;

    • used parts on the market were also damaged or worn out;

    • the customer wanted a fast and affordable solution without replacing the entire dashboard.

    Our Solution

    We offered to restore the damaged part using 3D printing by fully recreating its original shape and mounting points. This method allowed us to:

    • precisely reproduce the geometry of the original interior component;

    • strengthen weak mounting areas for better durability;

    • ensure exact dimensions for a perfect installation;

    • complete the repair in a very short time.

    Work Process

    1. Damage assessment – we carefully inspected the broken trim and measured all critical dimensions.

    2. 3D modeling – a new digital model was created, restoring the original design and reinforcing fragile sections.

    3. Material selection – we chose a plastic suitable for interior use, resistant to heat and daily wear.

    4. 3D printing and test fitting – the new trim was printed, installed, and adjusted to ensure a perfect fit.

    Result

    The restored dashboard trim:

    • fit exactly like the original part;

    • securely attached without gaps or movement;

    • restored the clean factory look of the interior;

    • cost far less than replacing large interior components.

    The customer received a fast, high‑quality repair and avoided expensive replacement of the entire dashboard assembly.

    When 3D Printing Helps Restore Interior Car Parts

    3D printing is an excellent solution for interior components when:

    • plastic trims or covers are cracked or missing;

    • original spare parts are discontinued;

    • only expensive full assemblies are available;

    • a quick and cost‑effective repair is needed.

    We frequently recreate:

    • dashboard trims and covers;

    • mounting clips and holders;

    • buttons, caps, and interior details;

    • rare plastic interior parts no longer sold by manufacturers.
